Stuff and More Stuff
I am feeling like a really uninspired blogger lately. I imagine this malaise strikes many a blogger who, upon having blogged for a year or so, realize that they have nothing of consequence to say.
So as long as we are in agreement that I am an utterly pointless voice in the universe, let's get down to business and decide who should be the next American Idol. I was rooting for rocker Chris for a while, but...eh, I guess the danger of having figured out one's signature sound is that you can start sounding really monotonous after a while.
I like Catherine's voice, but I think she's kind of Generic Pretty Singer. I am not dazzled by her hair extensions. Does the world need another Celine Dionne? NO! And let's don't even talk about the little Yamin guy. I mean, he's got a nice voice at times, but here again we must ask, does the world need another soulful but unoriginal R&B singer? Eh. The R&B world is pretty bereft of real talent, but it's proven of late to much more strongly value the pretty package rather than the voice.
And that leaves us with Taylor. Goofy, weird, earnest Taylor. I guess he gets my vote just because he's so joyful in his goofiness, so unafraid to look like a dork when he gets lost in a song, so, well...real.
And on an unrelated note, I just got the newest Victoria's Secret catalog, and dear God, please tell me the gaucho is not back. Please. On my ever-growing list of things the world does not need, gaucho pants are at the top of it. So if you see them in stores, or in your newest VS catalog, step away. Do not get lulled into thinking that their width at the bottom will balance the width of your hips and somehow make you look slim. They will not. They will simply make you look like a woman in some bad hybrid skirt-pants.
(And I realize as I post this that some of you East Coasters probably already know who got voted off AI this week. But this is a West Coast blog, people. I don't know yet, and I couldn't pass up an opportunity to make fun of that Yamin guy.)

Chris did. But if you don't watch, do you even know who Chris is?
Like 85.6% of America, I was shocked to see him go. I was pretty sure the final two would be him and Taylor.
But now...now, who the hell knows? And who even cares? I accidentally screwed up my DVR the other night and missed the Elvis episode of AI, and I was surprised to see that I wasn't even disappointed to not be able to see the show.
I heard that Chris went (didn't watch the results show, Lost and all..........)
I probably won't even bother to watch the rest of the season. Chris was the best IMO, though Taylor is entertaining.
Okay- I dare you to go anywhere on the internet and check out a picture of Katherine. Are her shoulders ungodly wide, or is just me?
I thought Chris was in danger, because, IMO, both Taylor and Elliot (who I do not like in the slightest) out-sung him Tuesday night. But I was shocked to see him go. He was my hands-down fav. Now I want Taylor to win, but I think Katharine will.

Hey I think MY shoulders are that wide. Maybe that's why she wears those hair extensions, to keep from looking like a linebacker.

I have only a fleeting interest in American Idol- we usually turn it on because the kids like music and something besides the Wiggles is, well something besides the Wiggles. I guess I'd have to vote for Taylor, if I cared enough to cast a vote!

It's slate blue and looks kind of like sponge painting. It's only on the top half of the wall. White wainscotting will go on the bottom, but I need my husband's help with that and the crowns/baseboards. No way do I trust myself with a mitre saw! And it's golf season, so... We'll see how it goes.

I must be part of the 15 percent who thought Chris would be the one booted off. You see, I have this theory that American Idol isn't about a great voice or talent ;-). It's about having crazy people dial in 100, 200 times to vote. Since Katherine gets all the horny boy votes now, do the math. Heh.
Excellent theory, Gennita. I forgot about the horny boy factor. Never underestimate the power of adolescent lust.
hmmm, the horny boy theory might possibly work for Clay, but it doesn't explain Rubin. Unless you are speculating that the horny boy voters will keep Katherine in one more week, then be overwhelmed by the teeny-bopper girl delegation?
In which case anything could happen.
I think teeny-bopper girls might vote for Katherine too just because she has good hair and makeup and that goofy, immature presence that would make her sympathetic to them.
I don't think anything explains Clay or Rubin... But if i had to think about it, I know Clay must have appealed to that whole group of women who listen to Michael Bolton and all the other singers on the power-ballad/soft rock stations. And from what I saw of that season, I remember liking Rubin's voice better.
I've never voted for an American Idol, have you guys?
So, like those non-voters who can't complain about the president, I can't gripe about who wins and who doesn't. . .
I would never go out and buy albums by them anyway. Too much of a musical snob, I guess.
What's the most embarrassing album you guys own? Mine is probably Cyndi Lauper's greatest hits. How cool am I?
I voted last season but haven't voted at all this season.
And I agree, way too embarrassing to actually go out and buy one of the albums, but i guess i would if one ever interested me. I'm probably just not that into pop music so none of the Idols so far have put out albums i'd even want.
Most embarrassing album I own? I don't have a great answer because I just cleaned out my music collection recently...but I do have the Howard Stern Private Parts soundtrack, which sounds embarrassing but actually has some good music on it.
I would probably love listening to Cindy Lauper's greatest hits, so I cannot criticize.
Hey, I am now rooting for Katherine and Taylor to be the final two on AI. I still probably would never buy either of their albums though.
Did anyone see that Guns N' Roses is supposed to be making another album, or at least Axl Rose is? Or did i dream that? Am I the only one who's spent the past decade pining away for them? I've seen a few recent photos of Axl...and let's just say the rocker lifestyle did NOT go easy on his looks.
I bought Fantasia's CD and was super disappointed in it. Gave it to my niece.
Last year I bought Bo Bice's CD, and same thing. I love his voice, but what he came out for a CD to me is watered down version of what *I* hear Bo Bice singing.
I would probably buy a Chris Daughtry CD. Just watched last night's AI this morning, and I loved Taylor's performances. I predict he and Katharine in the finals. I wouldn't buy her album, but I might take one last risk on Taylor if he puts one out.
