I gotta love that As Hot As It Gets, my "not a romance" romance novel, continues to be at the center of a controversy.
Heh.
If I were going to pick a book title to become the emblem of oversexed romance novels, I think As Hot As It Gets is perfect. I mean, it's just so ripe for lampooning, for one thing. And, hey, it just about sounds like a porn flick title, which makes every conversation about it that much more fun.

That is a really good article. I have to agree with the person who said she doesn't give a damn about what other authors think--it's the sales/readers who matter. And the fact that Blaze went from four to six books a month and continues to actively look for more authors (coughing as I raise my hand to volunteer... ;-) tells me that readers like the line just fine.
I could go on forever about the repetitive nature of the cowboy/baby/bride theme, but why? Some readers prefer that and to each her own. And some very talented authors write those books, too. I don't understand this rift between sexy and non-sexy, but it makes me think there's no point in having an award at all. In the end, does it really matter if there's a statue on your shelf as long as your readers love you? I think not.
Jamie, I think it's great that you're generating so much controversy. Hopefully it leads to more book sales! Every time I read your name in another column, I smile and think, "That's my CP, stirring the pot again." IMO, you should be proud of yourself. That judge might have done you a huge favour in terms of future sales.

And, you know, Melissa, the thing is, before the RITA judging changed, Jamie was nominated for RITAs two years in a row. I think that's just more evidence that the Blaze books fare better when read by judging panels familiar with the short and long contemporary categories, rather than the "opt-out"/hodgepodge-category current system.

Yeah I read the comments in that controversy... and ummm... if AHAIG is anything like your last one, it not finaling is nothing short of scandalous and the present RITA judging system should be blown to bits and start over. :-) JMHO. :-)
Oh stop Tim. :-) But you are sweet to say that. I would never presume to say one of my books should final. As Hot was an okay book, not great, but it IS blatantly sexual and that's really the problem...that so many judges are offended by the hot stuff.
